We spend much of our lives waiting, don’t we? Waiting for the mail. Waiting for our paycheck. Waiting for the school year to end. Waiting for the traffic light to change.

And just when we think all that waiting is over, we end up waiting again – this time for different things. I am not one who enjoys waiting. But if life consists largely of doing just that, I know it would benefit me to learn how to wait well.

I think of the biblical David and how he lived his life waiting for that day when God offered salvation from his cave living and running from the death wishes of King Saul. And then I imagine that  moment when David became king as promised. That whole process took forever! And yet, David tried very hard not to get bitter while waiting for his life to get better. He still managed to honor God.

I love this verse from Psalm 40:1:

“I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry” (NIV).

If you are waiting on your circumstances to change for the better, take heart, friends. It will. May we continue to trust the Lord despite how long it takes.
